Jamshedpur: Two pilots went missing after their training aircraft crashed at Chandil Dam in Jharkhand’s Saraikela-Kharsawan district on Tuesday morning.
Chandil Dam is around 40 kilometers from Jamshedpur.
East Singhbhum Superintendent of Police (SP) City, Rishav Garg, confirmed that a plane that took off from Jamshedpur Airport has gone missing. “Search operations are underway to locate the plane and its pilots,” the city SP said.
According to a senior police officer, the two-seater aircraft was on a routine training flight around 11 a.m. Shortly after takeoff, the plane lost contact with Air Traffic Control (ATC), raising immediate alarms.
The officer added that as communication ceased, an emergency search operation was launched involving police and administrative officials from both Jamshedpur and the neighboring district of Saraikela-Kharsawan.
Reliable sources from the aerodrome stated that the aircraft was a two-seater training plane owned by Alchemist Aviation.
“Our team is out searching for the missing aircraft and pilots,” said Mrinal Paul, Managing Director of Alchemist Aviation.
He declined to provide any further details about the type of aircraft or the names of the pilots on board.
At the time this report was filed, the administration had not been able to locate the missing plane or the pilots.
Garg said, “Several search teams have been able deployed to locate the plane and the missing pilots. The search operation will continue through the night.”
He further added that they have received inputs suggesting that the plane may have gone missing near the Chandil Dam.
A senior police officer confirmed, “The plane the two pilots were flying was a Cessna 152.”
The Cessna 152 is an American two-seater plane with fixed tricycle gear.
