Jamshedpur, May 17: The court on Monday sentenced the accused Birsa Banra to 25 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 for rape of a minor intellectually impaired girl.
The Jamshedpur court said in the judgment that in case of failure to pay the fine, he would undergo additional imprisonment for three months. The case is being heard by the court of Judge Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay of ADJ-One cum Special POSCO Court of Jamshedpur Court.
A total of eight people have testified in the case. The court convicted the accused Birsa Banra on Thursday under Section 376 (2) (1) and Section 6 of the Posco Act. The incident is of 26 February 2020. The family of the victim had informed the police while registering an FIR against the accused in Jaduguda police station.
The 17-year-old minor girl, who is retarded, Birsa Banra, who lives near the house, coaxed her and took her to his house and started having physical relations with her. In this sequence, the victim’s sister saw the incident with her own eyes and informed the family about the incident. Panchayat was also called in the village regarding this incident, but no result was found, then the matter reached the police station.
