Jamshedpur: MGNREGA workers angry over held-up wage payment

Jamshedpur, May 25: The Musabani Block Development Officer (BDO), Seema Kumari, on an inspection tour of MGNREGA projects in progress at Dakshin Badiya and Kuilisuta Panchayats, was confronted with expressions of displeasure by MGNREGA labourers as they complained against nonpayment of their wages over a period of time. The BDO too expressed her displeasure on the matter. The MGNREGA workers had warned that if their wages were not paid within a week, they would stop working and would not allow any other workers to work.

The Musabani BDO instructed the Block Programme Officer of MGNREGA project to take up the delayed wages matter with the higher officials. The BDO assured the workers that their held up payments would be made available at the earliest.

BDO Seema Kumari inspected the mango orchard, under the Horticulture Scheme at Rita Nayak’s farm in Dakshin Badiya Panchayat. Seema Kumari checked the attendance musters and sheds that were erected for rest and relief of labourers at project work sites. She was satisfied with the arrangements.. The Gram Rozgar Sevak was directed to ensure the work and progress of all MGNREGA related jobs and get the jobs completed as per time schedule. The BDO also instructed the Gram Rozgar Sevak to keep an eye on various projects and make sure of all norms and regulations were being followed as per MGNREGA project guidelines. BDO Seema Kumari inspected Sultan Nayak’s land also in Dakshin Badiya Panchayat where MGNREGA schematic work was being carried out.

The Musabani BDO also visited Kuilisuta Panchayat where she inspected the progress of various projects under the MGNREGA scheme were being carried out. Junior Engineer Rajiv Kumar Mahto, Gram Rozgar Sevak and others accompanied BDO Seema Kumari during the inspection tour.
