Jamshedpur: Zila Parishad Member Kavita Parmar has lodged a written complaint with the District Election Officer, East Singhbhum, alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) through objectionable social media content during the ongoing election process. In her letter dated February 4, Parmar stated that a video circulating on social media platforms contains derogatory and personal remarks targeting a woman in the context of political campaigning.
Referring to guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI), she noted that such content violates MCC Part I (General Conduct), which prohibits personal attacks, character assassination and indecent comments during election campaigns. The complaint also cites ECI circulars and advisories on responsible campaigning, emphasizing respect for women and the need to maintain the dignity of electoral discourse.
Parmar has urged the election authorities to take cognizance of the matter, issue notices to the concerned individuals and ensure strict compliance with MCC norms. She further appealed for clear directions to all candidates and political actors to refrain from using women as targets in political propaganda, so as to uphold free and fair elections.
