Jamshedpur: In what appears to be a tragic case of drunk driving, a 34-year-old man lost his life while another sustained serious injuries after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Mango-Azadnagar road in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Amit Tiwari, a resident of Bhalubasa, Sitaram Thana area, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured, Mohammed Khalid from Zakirnagar, Mango, has been admitted to the MGM Medical College Hospital.
The incident, which occurred near Ishu Bhavan around 2:30 am, went unnoticed until dawn. According to family members, Amit, known to be a regular consumer of alcohol, had left home after dinner, purportedly heading to a friend’s house in Mango.
“Amit’s habitual alcohol consumption led to the non-functionality of his PDS store in Bhalubasa over the past few months,” stated a family member.
The police, suspecting drunk driving as a factor in the accident, are utilizing CCTV footage to identify the vehicle responsible. An autopsy will also be conducted to determine the extent of Amit’s intoxication at the time of the incident.
“We are actively investigating the matter and awaiting the autopsy report to ascertain whether Amit’s intoxication played a role in the mishap,” stated the OC, Azadnagar.
