Jamshedpur man gets 14 year jail in minor’s rape-suicide case

Jamshedpur, May 7: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (V) cum Special POCSO Judge Sanjay Kumar Upadhyaya sentenced one Kuldeep Kumar Mahato to 14 years of imprisonment for raping a minor girl and driving her to commit suicide. It also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on the convict.

Kuldeep was convicted under Section 306 of IPC and Section 4 of POCSO Act on 4^th May last.

The incident dates back to December 2018 when the minor girl, a class 10^th student of Galudih, was preparing to go to school. Just then, she received a phone call. While speaking over the phone, she went into her room. Later, she was found hanging from the ceiling in her room. A suicide note was recovered from a book on her bed wherein the girl accused Kuldeep of exploiting her physically and emotionally. When the girl asked Kuldeep to marry her, he refused, leading her to end her life.
