Jamshedpur, May 5: One Rahul Agrawal, 37, resident of Rourkela, reportedly committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of a seven-storied building at Diagonal Road, Bistupur on Thursday, police said.

The victim was taken to Tata Main Hospital where he succumbed to critical head injuries, police said.

Sources said the incident took place around 3.35 pm when commuters and local traders rushed to an alley passing beneath Om Tower after hearing a loud thumping sound. Rahul lay on the ground in a critical condition. He had reportedly jumped from the terrace of Om Tower in what police claim to be a suicide.

Sources said the deceased had sent three videos of himself to his brother before taking the extreme step. In the video, Rahul reportedly blamed his wife and her parents for his marital crisis and distress, sources said.

Rahul was the son-in-law of Pradip Chudiwala, a prominent city-based businessman. He had checked in at Hotel KC Manor, Bistupur, at 10.30 pm yesterday and checked out today at 1 pm. He had kept his baggage in the hotel room. The hotel building adjoins Om Tower. Cops suspect Rahul reached the terrace of Om Tower through the hotel building.

Police officials suspect that Rahul committed suicide in depression as he was accused in a dowry torture and cruelty case filed in the court by his wife Varsha Agrawal. Rahul married Varsha in 2012.

Due to strained marital relationship, he remained tense and depressed, his family members told police.
