Jamshedpur, July 13: Jamshedpur Police have arrested the prime accused in the sensational murder of Rahul Singh alias Rahul Bachcha, nearly four days after the brutal killing that rocked the Mango area.

The accused, Vicky Singh alias Appa Rao alias Ballu (24), was apprehended from the Birsanagar police station area by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the case. Police said the accused had been constantly changing his hideout to evade arrest, but was finally tracked down on July 12 through a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence.

Rahul Bachcha was fatally assaulted with sticks, stones and wooden planks near a shrine on Gurudwara Road in Mango at around 7.30 pm on July 8.

He later succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered at Mango police station based on the statement of the victim’s brother.

Considering the gravity of the crime, the Senior Superintendent of Police constituted an SIT under the supervision of the City Superintendent of Police, with Assistant Superintendent of Police (Headquarters-I) Rishabh Trivedi leading the investigation.

Before Vicky Singh’s arrest, police had already apprehended four other accused — Saheb Singh alias Sabbe, Saurabh Dutta alias Bengali, Aftab Ali Baba and Amarjeet Prasad alias Pandey — all of whom have been remanded to judicial custody.

During interrogation, Vicky Singh reportedly confessed to his involvement in the murder. Investigators also found that he has a long criminal history, including cases of theft, possession of stolen property, obstruction of public servants, attempt to murder, and multiple offences registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police described the arrest of the prime accused as a significant milestone in the investigation and said further probe and legal proceedings are underway.
