Jamshedpur: The low-pressure originating from the Bay of Bengal has helped revive the monsoon currents in the region. The lowpressure now lies over Jharkhand , Odisha and adjoining Gangetic Bengal and this will result in a good spell of rain over the state in the next few days, weather officials at Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
Both the Patna and the Ranchi Met offices issued forecasts of heavy rainfall at few isolated pockets of the state in the next 48-hours. ” The lowpressure coupled with an upper air cyclonic circulation extending upto the mid-troposphere would result in fairly widespread rain with heavy to very heavy rains at a few pockets during the next 48-hours. ,” said a senior official at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre adding that monsoon has become active over Jharkhand and this will ensure a good shower show.
Several places across the state, including Jamshedpur ( also other places in Kolhan), Ranchi and Latehar districts experienced heavy rain in the evening. The local Met office in the steel city recorded around 30 mm of rain . The rainfall has been continuous.
Several places in East Singhbhum, Latehar, Hazaribagh and other districts in southern and central Jharkhand experienced over 40 mm of rain during the last 24-hours while 40 per cent Met observatories recorded over 20 mm of rain. Rain was continuing in several parts of the state at the time of filing this report.
The maximum temperatures plummeted four to five notches below normal in most parts of the state due to the showers during the 24-hours.
Weathermen were , however, optimistic that widespread rain would help in bringing down the deficit level. ” An activated monsoon would help in improving the deficit figure,” said a weather official at Ranchi.
