Jamshedpur: Kolhan Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Manoj Ratan Chote, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kishore Kaushal SP City, and SP Rural, conducted a comprehensive review of all Arms Act and firing-related cases reported in 2024. The review meeting, held with investigators, police station in-charges, zonal inspectors, and Deputy Superintendents of Police, focused on the resolution of such cases and devising strategies to prevent future incidents.
During the meeting, DIG Chote lauded the swift and effective resolution of firing-related cases by the Jamshedpur Police. He noted that the prompt action taken by the police had ensured the successful closure of these cases, reflecting the efficiency of the force. However, he emphasized the importance of shifting focus toward preventive measures to curb incidents of firing and gun violence before they occur.

To achieve this, DIG Chote issued directives to strengthen preventive policing strategies. He instructed officers to take immediate actions under the Crime Control Act (CCA) and implement surveillance proposals targeting habitual offenders with known criminal histories. Additionally, he directed police officials to enforce mandatory attendance of such offenders at local police stations and initiate property confiscation proceedings against absconding criminals as a deterrent.
The DIG stressed the need for enhanced vigilance and a proactive approach in dealing with criminals who possess firearms or have a history of violence. “Preventive action is key to ensuring public safety and reducing firearm-related incidents. We must identify potential threats and neutralize them before crimes are committed,” he stated.
The review also included discussions on improving coordination between police stations and higher authorities to ensure better intelligence gathering and timely action. Officers were encouraged to work closely with informants and utilize advanced surveillance technologies to monitor suspicious activities effectively.
Local residents have welcomed the measures, expressing hope that these steps will bring greater safety to their neighborhoods. “The police have done an excellent job in solving cases, but preventing crimes is even more important. We appreciate the DIG’s focus on this,” said a resident of Bistupur.
The Kolhan DIG’s proactive stance reflects a broader commitment to addressing gun violence and fostering a safer environment in Jamshedpur and its surrounding areas. The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge from the police force to prioritize public safety and uphold law and order through continuous vigilance and preemptive action.
“With stringent measures now in place, the police aim to not only solve crimes but also build a robust framework to prevent them, ensuring peace and security for the citizens of Jamshedpur,” said an official.
