Jamshedpur, June 8: Members of Jugsalai Rent Payers Association took to the streets in Jugsalai on Wednesday to protest against hike in holding tax by Jharkhand government.
Leading the protestors, Sardar Shailendra Singh said the outfit members had unanimously decided that none of them would pay the revised holding tax. “We have decided to move the court against the government decision so that people of the area may get some relief. We are not going to pay holding tax at the revised rate,” he said.
Many traders of Jugsalai brought down the shutters of their shops to lend support to the agitation. Only medical shops remained open.
Several other outfits like Jugsalai Durga Bari trust and Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Seva Dal also extended support to the rent payers.
The protestors alleged that the state government had increased the holding tax three times which was not justified given the facilities given by the local municipal body.
