Jamshedpur, May 3: In the Kadma dowry murder case involving Dolly Sahu, the Jamshedpur court has pronounced husband Sonu Singh guilty, sentencing him to seven years in prison along with a fine of Rs 10,000. Additional District and Sessions Judge Manju Kumari found Singh guilty under Section 304B for dowry murder, sentencing him to seven years, and under Section 498A for dowry harassment, sentencing him to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.
It may be mentioned that Dolly Sahu’s lifeless body was discovered on September 24, 2020, in her in-laws’ home at Anil Sur Path, Kadma. Despite multiple injury marks, the police initially filed it as an unnatural death until Dolly’s father, Anil Sahu, accused her husband of murdering her for dowry. Sahu stated that since Dolly’s marriage in 2019, Singh and his family had subjected her to mental and physical abuse, demanding Rs 2 lakh in dowry.
Singh, an auto driver, had been evading arrest until advocate Sudhir Kumar Pappu filed a complaint in the Jamshedpur court, prompting the authorities to register a case of dowry harassment and dowry death. Following the court’s orders, Singh was apprehended.
The court’s verdict, based on witness statements and evidence, marked the culmination of a three-year legal battle. Anil Sahu and his family expressed gratitude to the court and the media for their support in seeking justice.
