Jamshedpur, Nov 21: The labour department conducted a surprise inspection at the Ahana Housing Project located beside Aashiana Gardens in Sonari on Friday evening.
During the raid, officials found a large number of outsourced labourers brought from other states, including Gujarat, West Bengal, and Bihar.
Labour superintendent Satendra Prasad Singh personally led the operation.
During verification, the officials discovered that the company was authorised to employ only 90 workers.
However, a total of 150 labourers were found working at the site — 60 more than the permitted number.
The company failed to produce any valid licence or labour register when demanded by the authorities.
Citing clear violation of labour norms, the Labour Superintendent immediately ordered the halt of construction activities at the site.
Officials also instructed the builders to provide 15 days’ wages to all workers before they are removed from the premises.
Sonari police reached the location to support the operation and a written report has been submitted to the local police station.
The Ahana Housing Project is currently constructing an 11-storey building in Sonari.
Further action is expected against the project owners for non-compliance with labour regulations.
