Jamshedpur horse riding school guru Bheem Singh Shekhawat is no more

Jamshedpur, April 5: Bheem Singh Shekhawat, founder trainer of Jamshedpur Horse Riding School, passed away late Monday night. He was 80.

Sources said the octogenarian lived in the quarter of his son Mahendra Singh Shekhawat at Bistupur. He was admitted to Tata Main Hospital after his condition deteriorated in his residence. He died during treatment. He is survived by two sons and three daughters. His elder son, Bhanwar Singh, is a known cyclist currently living in Jaipur after retiring from the Army. His younger son Mahendra Singh Shekhawat and daughter-in-law work at Tata Steel.

Shekhawat senior served in the Army for 28 years. He was known for his exceptional horsemanship. According to people who closely knew and saw him, he could control even the most adamant horses in no time. His horse riding skills were matchless and people watched him effortlessly control the horses in awe.

Shekhawat trained innumerable IAS and IPS officers in Dehradun and NDA cadets for 24 years. He came to Kolkata after retirement when the then MD of Tata steel Dr JJ Irani expressed his desire to open a horse riding school in Jamshedpur. Shekhawat was contacted for opening the school. He came here in 1992 where he was given accommodation in CH Area. Soon the Horse Riding School was opened in CH Area. It was inaugurated by Dr Irani on 30th October 1994.
