Seraikela: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department conducted a surprise raid on Amalgam Steel & Power Limited (formerly Modern Alloys) on Tuesday morning.
Three vehicles carrying GST officials from Jamshedpur and Ranchi arrived at the plant around 12 noon and headed straight to the administrative building.
The team reportedly scrutinized billing procedures, tax filings, and account records, while also demanding additional transaction-related documents from the company management.
The operation which began around noon continued for over four hours, with officials examining company records and financial documents inside the premises.
The sudden action created a buzz across the company premises and nearby areas, with employees appearing anxious amid the ongoing inspection.
Though the GST Department has not issued any official statement yet, sources indicated that the raid was carried out following complaints related to possible tax irregularities or evasion.
The actual situation will become clear only after the completion of the inquiry.
Officials are currently preparing the investigation report.
