Kalimati picnic spot likely to open for public by October end

Jamshedpur, Oct 5: Jamshedpur is known for parks and greenery. Taking this initiative forward, JUSCO today gifted yet another green zone to the citizens of Jamshedpur � �Kalimati Picnic Spot�.

Sunil Bhaskaran, VP (Corporate Services), Tata Steel inaugurated the picnic spot which is spread over 14 acres of land along with R Rabi Prasad, President, Tata Workers Union today inside the premises of Bari Maidan, Sakchi in the presence of Tarun Daga, MD, JUSCO.

Bhaskaran in his address spoke on how with the help of community and citizens we can make Jamshedpur clean, green, safe and smart. JUSCO with the help from local residents as a part of the Zimmedaar Nagrik campaign has converted many areas into parks for the benefit of the users.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the park, Bhaskaran said, Ashish Mathur, Dhananjay Mishra played a vital role behind opening of this park and R Rabi Prasad pushed it during the initial stage. ‘The spot looks much better than we actually thought and people will enjoy their day out as temperature comes down. New address has been added to Jamshedpur’s itinerary’, Bhaskaran signed off.

Speaking after the inauguration, Tarun Daga, said, Tata Steel gave us an opportunity to build this park and under the leadership of Ashish Mathur, Jusco has completed the work within 21 months.

‘Jamshedpur has more than 40 parks which makes up to 400 acre of greenery. The green cover of the city is 37 % and with the opening of new parks the greenery will increase in coming years’, added JUSCO MD.

R Rabi Prasad in his address thanked Tata Steel and JUSCO for creating beautiful facilities for the citizens of Jamshedpur. ‘Several picnic spots of the city have been closed but Kalimati spot will be a new entertainment address for the people of the city. The opening time is perfect with the winter setting in and people looking for outdoor enjoyment’.

Later, addressing the media, Capt. Dhananjay Mishra, Sr. GM (JTO), the picnic spot will be opened to public by last week of October. For picnic, citizens will have to make booking paying minimum charges at Nursery. For morning walkers it will be totally free from 6 am to 8 am. Amphitheatre and jungle track is a first of its king initiative in Steel City, added Mishra.

Kalimati picnic spot houses -Open gym equipment: 20 nos. to keep people fit & healthy, 12 picnic spots, natural rural and lush green environment, enclosed from all four sides with High Compound wall, 25 different species of trees, swings, walking/ jungle track for morning walkers (332 running meters), water fountain, multipurpose concrete platform, fruit orchard, wide open spaces, kids play area, amphitheatre, separate toilets for both ladies & gents and safe drinking water.

Earlier Jamshedpur, was known as “Kalimati” (meaning “Land of Black soil”) situated near Sakchi village and today since our park is in Sakchi we have named it as the Kalimati Picnic Spot.

Present from JUSCO were Capt. Dhananjay Mishra, Sr. GM (JTO), Deepak Kamath, Sr. GM (HR/IR & Real Estate), V P Singh, GM (PSD), Aman Chodha, Chief Strategy Officer, Arun Vidyut, Chief Manager, PHS and team from Public Health and Horticulture Department. Raghunath Pandey, President, JUSCO Shramik Union along with his Office Bearers was also present at the function. Eminent senior citizens and members from social organizations came in large numbers to attend the function.
