Jamshedpur: The city experienced a significant weather shift on Wednesday, marked by a sudden and intense rainfall in the afternoon. While the morning saw only a meagre 1.5 mm of rain recorded by the local weather office till 2:30 PM, the weather took a dramatic turn later in the day.

Between 3 PM and 4 PM, the city was hit by torrential rain, significantly increasing the day’s total rainfall. The local weather office recorded an impressive 12 mm of rain during this short period, contributing to localized flooding in several areas and disrupting daily activities. According to sources, a total of 28.8 mm rain was recorded between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm.

Residents were caught off guard by the sudden downpour, which led to traffic snarls and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Commuters faced challenges as roads became slippery and visibility was reduced, necessitating extra caution while driving.

The weather office has advised residents to stay updated with the latest forecasts as more showers are expected later in the week. Citizens are encouraged to take necessary precautions and ensure their safety during such unpredictable weather events.

The city’s emergency services are on alert to address any weather-related issues promptly. The local administration has also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and to report any incidents of flooding or waterlogging to the relevant authorities.

The sudden and intense rainfall led to severe waterlogging in various parts of the city, with Sakchi being one of the worst-hit areas. Streets in Sakchi quickly turned into rivers, making them impassable for both vehicles and pedestrians. The heavy rain overwhelmed the drainage systems, causing water to accumulate rapidly.

Residents in Sakchi and other affected areas faced numerous challenges due to the waterlogging. Traffic came to a standstill as vehicles struggled to navigate the flooded streets. Many commuters were stranded, and public transportation services were severely disrupted. People returning home from work or running errands found themselves wading through knee-deep water.
Local businesses in Sakchi also bore the brunt of the heavy rain. Shops and market stalls were inundated, causing damage to goods and property. Shopkeepers spent hours trying to protect their merchandise from the rising water. The sudden deluge affected not only retail businesses but also street vendors who rely on daily sales for their livelihood.
Many residents expressed frustration and concern over the recurring issue of waterlogging in Sakchi. “Every time it rains heavily, our area gets flooded. It’s becoming a serious problem,” said Ravi Kumar, a local shop owner. “We need better infrastructure and drainage systems to handle such situations.” Others highlighted the need for better preparedness and communication from the authorities. “We were caught completely off guard. There was no warning about such heavy rain,” said Sunita Sharma, a resident of Sakchi. “The administration needs to improve its forecasting and alert systems.”
