Jamshedpur gears up for peaceful Ramnavmi procession

SDO convene peace committee meetings

Jamshedpur, April 3: With an aim to ensure peaceful Ramnavmi celebrations, the East Singhbhum administration is gearing up to make elaborate arrangements. The administration has decided to deploy adequate policemen and paramilitary personnel to prevent any untoward incident. The festival will include processions taken out by 159 akharas on April 11. With maximum temperatures soaring, water was one of the main issues raised during a meeting presided over by Dhalbhum sub-divisional officer ( SDO) Sandeep Meena.

Among others the meeting was also attended by representatives of various peace committee members and Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samiti, which monitors the procession. Meena said the administration has asked private companies to provide water tankers in different city areas depending on locations nearest to their works during the festivity and afterwards too in view of the imminent water crisis.

At the meeting, the SDO asked other corporate houses like Tata Motors Limited, Lafarge, Tata Ryerson, Tata Power , Tinplate Company of India Limited ( TCIL) and Uranium Corporation of India Limited ( UCIL) to provide   water tankers to areas in their vicinity. A senior functionary of Jamshedpur Durga Puja Kendriya Samiti, Ram Babu Singh said that it was decided to inspect the river ghats.

The East Singhbhum district administration as part of its security measures has decided to introduce electronic surveillance during Ramnavami procession to keep an eye on rowdy elements who often create trouble, mostly under the influence of liquor during the religious procession especially as it passes through communally sensitive areas.

The district administration is also according top priority to safety of Ramnavami devotees during the procession.

“We would be deputing 11 ambulances at strategic locations leading to different ghats across the city and its outskirts. The ambulance would be equipped with doctors and paramedics and would rush the injured to the nearest hospitals after administering first aid and basic treatment,” added the SDO Dhalbhum.

Roads passing through communally sensitive and residential areas inhabited by minorities would be barricaded for security reasons.

The administration has also directed the respective local urban bodies, Tata Steel UISL and the drinking water and sanitation department for arranging water tankers during the procession.

“Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee and Tata Steel UISL will make arrangements for water tankers in the city while Mango Notified Area Committee and Jugsalai municipality would make arrangements for water tankers in Mango and Jugsalai area respectively. Drinking water and sanitation department would make arrangements for water tankers in rural areas,” said SDO.

A monitoring cell would be constituted comprising personnel of civil defence and executive magistrates for conduct of surprise inspection of various akharas committees to see if they are complying with safety requirements.
