Jamshedpur, Apr 26: Significant changes have been approved in the design of the under-construction Mango flyover to better address traffic movement and concerns of local residents and businesses. After a series of discussions, it was agreed that the stretch of the flyover from Mango Chowk to Payal Cinema will now be two-lane, instead of the earlier one-way, single-lane plan.
The agreement was finalized during a meeting held at MLA Saryu Roy’s residence between Rai, Sanjay Bhargava, Chief Design In-Charge of the construction company, and Deepak Sahay, Executive Engineer of the Road Construction Department. Bhargava specially travelled from Ahmedabad to Jamshedpur to review the design after strong demands from local traders and residents.

Earlier, the design permitted only one-way traffic towards Payal Cinema from Mango Chowk. Now, the revised plan allows for two-way movement, improving traffic flow significantly. “The new design ensures smoother travel both to and from Payal Cinema without causing inconvenience to residents or businesses,” MLA Saryu Roy stated.
As part of the redesign, a roundabout will be constructed near Payal Cinema for better vehicle turning and U-turn options. Service roads will be developed on both sides of the flyover, and the space beneath the structure will be utilized for parking, providing much-needed relief from congestion.
With the design dispute resolved, work on the piling of this stretch, which had been stalled for two days, is set to restart immediately.
In addition, Rai and Bhargava visited the stretch from Hathi Ghoda Temple, Sakchi to Bhuinyandih crematorium, proposing a new flyover over Timken roundabout. This structure would help divert heavy vehicles headed to and from Tata Steel, thereby preventing jams on Mango Bridge. Bhargava has instructed his engineering team to begin the design process for this new flyover.
Roy emphasized, “The two-lane upgrade and the proposed new flyover will be crucial steps in resolving the persistent traffic jams faced by Jamshedpur.”
