Land hurdles, information gaps stall progress at Jamshedpur Airport in Dhalbhumgarh

Delays and roadblocks impact regional airport projects

Jamshedpur: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has provided crucial updates on three regional airport projects through recent RTI replies, highlighting ongoing hurdles and delays. The construction of Dhalbhumgarh Airport remains stalled as the Jharkhand government has yet to hand over the required land. “Since the land has not been handed over, the project deadline cannot be determined at this stage,” AAI clarified, causing concern among local residents who demand expedited action.

Meanwhile, regarding Dandbose Airport in Rairangpur, AAI stated that development information and layout details fall under the jurisdiction of the Odisha state government. The airport’s foundation stone was laid by the President of India on December 7, 2024, but limited updates have led to calls for greater transparency from stakeholders.

In Deoghar, the AAI has withheld details of the Phase-2 development of Deoghar Airport under Section 8(d) of the RTI Act, citing concerns over commercial confidentiality. With Deoghar Airport becoming increasingly important for passenger traffic, the lack of public information has raised concerns among residents and aviation experts alike. These updates reflect the growing need for coordinated efforts between state governments and AAI to fast-track key infrastructure projects.
