Jamshedpur Flower Show begins

Jamshedpur, Dec 29: The 34th Annual Flower Show and 41st All India Rose Convention kicked off at Gopal Maidan, Bistupur on Sunday.

Organized by the Horticulture Society of Jamshedpur in collaboration with Tata Steel and Tata Steel UISL, the event is a vibrant celebration of nature, horticulture, and artistry.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel, inaugurated the four-day event in the presence of Horticulture Society Chairperson Ruchi Narendran, President Sumita Nupur, and other dignitaries.

This year’s theme, “Charo Taraf Gul Aur Gulab Hai, Jamshedpur Mein Aai Bahar Hai,” reflects the spirit of spring and floral artistry.

The flower show features a wide variety of rare blooms, award-winning roses, and interactive workshops by experts.

The event is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm with an entry fee of Rs. 10, making it accessible to all.

Several competitions including the sit-and-draw for schoolchildren (December 30), a mobile photography contest, and cultural performances on the evening of December 30 will be organised.

The prize distribution ceremony will take place on December 30 at 2:30 pm, with Tata Steel VP Sundara Ramam as the chief guest and Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal as the special guest.

Technical sessions of the rose convention will be held at Tulsi Bhawan, while the rose exhibition will be at Gopal Maidan. Over 3,000 roses are on display, with workshops led by renowned horticulturists.

The event is attracting delegates from across India, including Pune, Nagpur, Delhi, and Ranchi.

Around 30 nurseries and 16 octogen hangars are available for gardening enthusiasts, and 10 food stalls will cater to visitors’ refreshment needs.

It’s worth noting that the Horticultural Society organizes the Flower Show annually, attracting gardening enthusiasts from across the country.

The event showcases a myriad of colorful flowers and innovative gardening techniques.

The 41st All India Rose Convention and Rose Show was successfully held in Jamshedpur, drawing over 240 delegates and 178 exhibits from across the country, including Delhi, Pune, Nagpur, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Kolkata, and Jaipur.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President (Corporate Services) of Tata Steel Ltd., highlighted Jamshedpur’s longstanding association with rose cultivation. He recalled that the city once boasted a rose garden in Jubilee Park, which was relocated to Sir Dorabji Park due to landscaping restructuring.

Distinguished Awards

The event honored several individuals for their exceptional contributions to rose cultivation and promotion:

  • Baren Kumar Maity received the Distinguished Exemplary Award for his leadership, dedication, and vision in advancing rose culture. He was also recognized for hosting the 41st Rose Convention and establishing the “Garden of the Year.”
  • Mancher Irani from Pune was conferred the prestigious Nawab Saha Alam Gold Medal by the Indian Rose Federation for his extensive contributions to rose-related literature and consistent participation in rose events.
  • Mukund Tigare from Nagpur was also awarded the Nawab Saha Alam Gold Medal for his 20 years of participation in rose conventions.
  • Late Captain Subrimal Dey Jhargram and Vijay Pokarana were posthumously honored for their remarkable contributions to rose breeding.

 

 Also present at the convention were Uttam Singh, Vice President of Tata Steel; D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President of Raw Materials, Tata Steel; and Rituraj Sinha, Managing Director of Tata Steel UISL. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by A.K. Srivastava, Joint Secretary of Horticultural Society Jamshedpur (HSJ).

The convention not only celebrated India’s vibrant rose culture but also reinforced Jamshedpur’s place as a hub for horticultural excellence.
