Jamshedpur, August 8: Jamshedpur FC  is making steady progress in squad formation as it announced the signing of midfielder Germanpreet Singh.

The step is aimed at bolstering the midfield for the upcoming Hero Indian Super League 2022-23 season. The 26-year-old midfielder will don the red jersey till 2024.

Midfielder Germanpreet represented Chennaiyin FC for five seasons and he featured in 62 matches, having scored once and assisted three times. He was also a part of their Hero ISL winning squad in 2017-18. Before moving to Chennaiyin in July 2017, Germanpreet played for Minerva Punjab FC.

Germanpreet said, ” I wanted to take on a new challenge after playing with Chennaiyin FC for 5 years. When Jamshedpur came calling it was an obvious choice. I play to win and Jamshedpur is a club with huge ambitions having proved so in the way it won the League Winners Shield. I am excited to be playing at the Furnace representing the vibrant Red Miners. It’s an added responsibility to defend and add more to the club’s achievements and I look forward to working hard in training and games to achieve the same.”

“Germanpreet is an exciting player who fits our playing style. He is young, skillfull and has a strong physical presence which is an added asset to our midfield. He is a proven champion in the ISL and brings that winning mentality for himself and the team,” said head coach Aidy Boothroyd.

Germanpreet will join the squad in Jamshedpur for the pre-season in mid-August, donning jersey number 28.

Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, the 5ft 9 inch Singh is a graduate of the AIFF Academy.[1] He then signed for Dempo of the I-League and made his professional debut on 27 January 2015 against Sporting Goa. He came on as a 5th-minute substitute for Peter Carvalho as Dempo won 3–0.[2] He then scored his first ever professional goal in his next match on 7 February 2015 against Royal Wahingdoh. After coming off the bench at half-time, Singh scored what would be the opening goal of the game for Dempo but the match still ended 1–1.

In 2017, Germanpreet signed from Minerva Punjab on a 3 year deal. He only made a single appearance in his first season. On 30 September 2018, he was included in the game squad for the opening match. He made a total of 11 appearances for his team before the AFC Asian Cup break.
