Jamshedpur: Fake Facebook account in former cricketer Saurabh Tiwary’s name used for fraud

Jamshedpur, August 18:  A case of online fraud has surfaced in Jamshedpur, where a fake Facebook account was created in the name of former cricketer Saurabh Tiwary, a resident of Vijay Garden Baridih. The fake account has been used to deceive people by soliciting registration fees under the guise of cricket opportunities. According to the complaint filed by Saurabh Tiwari at Bistupur Cyber Police Station, the fraudsters used his name and photo to create the account, misleading the public into believing it was authentic.

On August 7, a post appeared on the fake account, featuring a mobile number (7290829790) and a message inviting young boys to register for the Uttar Pradesh T20 League and Karnataka Premier League 2024. The post claimed that contacting the provided number would facilitate their participation in these leagues. Additionally, the fraudsters posted another message, demanding Rs 499 and Rs 999 as registration fees, using counterfeit documents falsely associated with the National Cricket Academy.

This deceitful activity has tarnished Saurabh Tiwary’s reputation, as the fraudsters exploited his identity to con people. The police have registered an FIR and initiated an investigation to track down those responsible. The authorities have urged the public to be cautious and verify any information before making payments to avoid falling victim to such scams. The Bistupur Cyber Police are now working to trace the origin of the fake account and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
