Jamshedpur, Dec 13: Chandan Chess Academy, Jamshedpur celebrated the birthday of India’s first Chess Grandmaster Five-time World Chess Championship winner Viswanathan Anand at Retro Garden in Sonari on Tuesday, December 13.
Grandmaster celebrated his 53rd birthday on Sunday. The chess legend was born in Chennai on December 11, 1969.
On the occasion a cake cutting celebration was held. Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, CEO, Jamshedpur Football Club was the chief guest for the occasion. Guest of honour at the event were Vibhuti Adesara, Senior Manager, Tata Steel Sports Department, Vivek Agarwal, Social worker, Akshay Agarwal, Teacher and Social Worker and Ishwar Dayal, Secretary of SJVS (NGO). The guests were honoured by Chandan Kumar Prasad, Chess coach and event organiser.
Chess players Aakhyaan Dubey, Souryadipta Sarkar, Reyansh Jagnani, Purab Rushabh Gandhi, Luvya Agarwal to name a few were also present.
FA Chandan Kumar Prasad, International Fide Rated Chess Player and Coach said, “My students and I are a great fan of Grand Master Viswanathan Anand Sir. It is prestigious moment to for us celebrating his birthday and we are proud of his achievement.”
It is worth mentioning that in his childhood, Anand was inspired by his mother’s interest in the game and began playing against his mother at the age of six.
The grandmaster title in chess is awarded by the World Chess Federation (FIDE). Anand was awarded the title in 1988 to become India’s first chess grandmaster.
