Jamshedpur, April 6: A devastating incident occurred on Thursday when a tanker came in contact with a high-tension wire, resulting in the death of the driver. The incident has sent shock waves through the community and raised concerns about safety regulations and precautions around high-tension wires.
The driver of a tanker was electrocuted to death and its cleaner injured as the heavy vehicle came in contact with an overhead high-tension line in Adityapur industrial area.
The incident took place near an industrial unit, M/s Ranbir Polymer at the industrial area phase – I under RIT police station area in Adityapur. As the tanker was passing through a road in front of the Ranbir Polymer company, the vehicle came in contact with the overhead high-tension line, causing electricity to run through it.
A fire tender arrived at the scene and rescued the driver from the vehicle. The victim was immediately rushed to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.
In the meantime, a team of Jharkhand Bijli Vitaran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) officials reached the spot for inspection. A senior JBVNL official said the height of the high-tension line that passes through the area was alright, but the mishap took place as there were some additional fittings in the tanker that caused the vehicle to come in contact with the overhead high-tension line.
High-tension wires, which are used to transmit electricity at high voltages, are known to be extremely dangerous and require strict safety measures to avoid any contact. The incident has raised questions about the safety protocols and precautions in place for such operations, including the delivery of fuel and other hazardous materials near high-tension wires.
