Jamshedpur: Drain water to be treated before releasing into rivers

Jamshedpur,Jan 25: Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC) has taken an initiative to ensure that Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers are not polluted. The dirty water of 16 big drains is polluting the water by falling into the rivers Swarnarekha and Kharkai flowing under the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee. Due to this, the existence of human as well as aquatic animals has started threatening. Not only this, Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers are life-giving for more than 15 lakh people living in the industrial city of Jamshedpur.

The government has taken a big initiative to make the water of the dirty river clean. Just as the team of Namami Gange in Banaras cleaned the river Ganges, the water of both the rivers of Jamshedpur will be made clean on the same lines. For this, the water of all 16 big drains will be dropped in the river only after treatment. For this, a high-level team from Kolkata reached Jamshedpur and took stock of the river and drains with special officer Krishna Kumar.

There are 16 big drains under the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee. Through this drain, the dirty water of the city is falling into the river and polluting the water of the river. According to the information, more than 10 MLD (1 crore liters) of dirty water is falling into the river every day from 16 drains. Due to this, the existence of aquatic animals along with the general public is being threatened.

During the summer, the river turns into a drain. The water of the Subarnarekha river has become polluted. The amount of oxygen in the water is also decreasing. The biological oxygen demand (BOD) in water has exceeded the norm, while the biological oxygen demand should be less than the norm. The Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board had got the water of Subarnarekha river checked last year. In which it was found that in most places the amount of oxygen in the water is low.
