Seraikela, June 8: A five year-old girl swallowed a Rs 1 coin in Kuchai here on Wednesday. She was taken to Madhusudan Memorial Polyclinic where doctors removed the coin after one and a half hour of clinical procedure, sources said.

Sources said the girl, Kavita Besra, daughter of Ravi Besra and Karmi Besra, took the coin from her father’s ration shop and put it in her mouth. After a while, she swallowed the coin, which got stuck in her throat. Ravi Besra was not at home. Her mother took the girl to a local physician Dr Shivcharan Hansda who advised the family to take the girl to the local clinic.

Keeping the child under observation, Dr Pradip Kumar and others removed the coin without surgery. The girl was sedated for around three hours. On gaining consciousness, the girl spoke to her parents and also expressed desire to eat something, sources said.
