Shootout case witness gunned down at Agrico

Jamshedpur, June 8: Three armed assailants shot dead Manpreet Pal Singh, 22, at C Block, Agrico, under Sidhgora police station area on Wednesday, sources said.
Manpreet sustained critical injuries in the assault. He was taken to Tata Main Hospital where he was pronounced brought dead.

Sources said Manpreet was a witness in a case of firing on one Gaurav registered at Sidhgora police station. The firing incident took place three months ago. The three accused in the case had allegedly threatened Manpreet against giving his testimony in the court.

Manpreet, who was a B.Com student of Gurunanak Dev Singh University in Punjab, had come to the city on Monday last. He had also appeared in the court as a witness in the said case, sources said.

Sources said the three assailants barged into Manpreet’s house and scuffled with his mother. They reportedly shot one bullet on Manpreet’s head, one on his hand and third on his leg before his mother, sources said, claiming that eight rounds were fired by the culprits.

SP City K Vijay Shankar reached the crime scene and also visited TMH after the incident. DSP CCR Animesh Gupta also accompanied him. They inquired into the incident and gave instructions to Sidhgora police regarding measures to nab the shooters.

Members of Sikh community reached TMH and condemned the incident. They demanded a speedy probe into the incident and prompt arrest of the culprits.
