Jamshedpur, July 6: A dispute has arisen between the Zila Parishad Chairman and Sundarnagar Police regarding the setup and removal of a cart at Sundarnagar Chowk. The conflict centered on a woman snacks vendor who had set up a cart at the Sundarnagar Chowk but was removed by the police.
On Saturday, supporters of the ZP Chairman surrounded the Chowk and the police station in protest. The standoff led to a one-hour traffic jam on the Tata-Hata and Tata-Jadugora roads, resulting in long queues of vehicles on both sides. The issue was eventually resolved after discussions between the police and the Zila Parishad Chairman.
The Chairman asked the police to remove the sand and gravel dumped on the roadside and to allow the woman to set up her cart again. The woman, Santoshi Devi, had been selling snacks at Sundarnagar Chowk for the past 20 years. However, on June 26, 2024, Kamaldev Singh, a local resident, dumped construction material in front of her cart, affecting her business. When Santoshi Devi requested the removal of the material, Kamaldev Singh and his supporters threatened her and lodged a complaint against her and her husband at Sundarnagar police station.
Following the complaint, the police detained Santoshi Devi’s husband, Dilip Kumar Singh, and made him write on a blank paper that the cart would not be set up at the spot. Santoshi Devi reported this incident in writing to the Zila Parishad Chairman, Bari Murmu. After receiving no response from the police, Bari Murmu and his supporters surrounded the Sundarnagar Chowk and the police station on Saturday, leading to the resolution of the issue.
