Jamshedpur DDC directs timely implementation of Drinking Water and Sanitation schemes

Jamshedpur, June 22: Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, following the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, East Singhbhum. The meeting emphasized the need for timely implementation of the government’s ambitious drinking water supply plans. Concerns were raised over the slow progress of the Har Ghar Nal Yojana, prompting directives to accelerate the work on this rural water supply scheme.

The district has a target of connecting over 3.5 lakh households to the water supply scheme across both divisions. To ensure the provision of clean water through taps, the Deputy Development Commissioner urged completing the work within the specified timeframe. Currently, only 98,000 houses in Jamshedpur division and 13,000 houses in Adityapur division have been covered under the scheme. It was highlighted that timely completion of the project is crucial to prevent families from being deprived of its benefits. The authorities stressed the importance of adherence to punctuality and maintaining high-quality standards, urging an increase in the pace of work.

The meeting also addressed water availability at the Panchayat/Tola level, focusing on functional domestic water tap connections, river-based mega water supply, and solar energy-based small water supply systems. Villagers were encouraged to be mindful of maintenance requirements, and promotion of underground water was deemed essential.

To resolve inter-departmental issues related to the completion of other drinking water supply schemes, officials were instructed to coordinate with the relevant departmental officers. Furthermore, the drinking water sanitation departmental officer was directed to take immediate action in case of broken hand pumps or damaged solar water towers, ensuring prompt repairs. Executive Engineer of Jamshedpur Division, Abhay Toppo, and District Coordinator SBM-G were among the attendees present at the meeting. Additionally, Assistant Engineers (AEs) and Junior Engineers (JEs) participated in the virtual conference, demonstrating a collective effort to address the challenges and expedite progress in the drinking water and sanitation sector.
