Jamshedpur, May 3: . Rehabilitation of oustees of Chatikocha village, proper maintenance of tailing point and allegation of villagers that uranium dust/waste is adversely affecting their health. On all these issues and demands of the local people, the Deputy Commissioner East Singhbhum Vijaya Jadhav held a detailed discussion with the UCIL Company Management.
The representatives of the company told that they have plans to relocate the villagers of Chatikocha to Bhatin village, on which the people of Bhatin have objected. It was considered to hold a Gram Sabha on this issue with the MLAs, officials of the district administration and local people’s representatives and villagers.
The deputy commissioner said that there is enough space in Bhatin where the people of Chatikocha can be settled, and both the villages are also close to each other. Regarding the maintenance of the tailing point and disposal of uranium waste, the company representatives assured that all necessary precautionary measures are taken to avoid radiation, neither the workers nor the people living nearby are in any kind of danger.
The representatives of the company urged the Deputy Commissioner to conduct a site inspection. He said that the company is sensitive to the demand of the oustees, both the parties benefit from the quick resolution of this impasse.
It was assured by the Deputy Commissioner about all possible cooperation from the level of administration and finding a solution to this problem.
