Jamshedpur, July 24: City police here arrested two members of Salman gang and confiscated illegal arms from their possession.
Those arrested were identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad, resident of Line No 4, Block B, Dhatkidih, and Meraj Asgar, resident of Road No 19, Azad Basti, Mango.
According to Prabhat Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), East Singhbhum, “A police team raided the houses of the accused persons on the basis of tip-off about their involvement in various crimes committed by Salmang gang. A single-barrel rifle and bullets were seized from Shahnawaz’s house while two country-made pistols and a country-made gun along with bullets were seized from Meraj’s house. Both accused used the arms in various crimes. We are trying to find out the source of these arms.”
The SSP said the Salman gang was mainly involved in extorting people by threatening them. He said police were continuously raiding the gang members’ whereabouts in order to tighten noose around them. A special investigation team (SIT) is carryout out the raids, he said.
The SSP further added that so far 12 members of Salman gang have been arrested and that the kingpin Salman would soon be in police net.
