The AIFF fitness instructor and match commissioner to attend referee course

Jamshedpur, July 24: The All India Football Association (AIFF) has assigned Binod Kumar Singh to attend the FIFA referee and assistant referee course which is scheduled in Kochi (Kerala) between July 25 and 29.
Jamshedpur-based Singh, an ex-FIFA referee, has been assigned the role of a fitness instructor during the 5-day course, the highest level course for referees and assistant referees. The course is conducted annually by FIFA and the AIFF.
According to Singh, all together 35 Referees and 35 assistant referees will be part of the course. “I am glad to be assigned the role of a fitness instructor. Will try to give my best,” he said.
Apart from Singh, Singapore-based Ganesan Maniam has also been assigned the role of fitness instructor. Ganesan is also a FIFA fitness instructor. FIFA instructors Rozali and Shukruddin (both from Malaysia) will be officiating as technical instructors during the course.
Singh, also AIFF match commissioner, has officiated a good number of international matches, including World Cup qualifying matches in Cambodia (2002) and Uzbekistan (2004), and Olympic qualifying round tie in Jordan (2003). He has also conducted Asian Club Championship and Asian Youth Championship matches.
At the national level, he officiated tourneys such as I League, Santosh Trophy and Durand Cup. His career as a referee spanned from 1986 to 2005. “I enjoyed my role as a referee to the hilt. It is a tough job, but gives you experience and confidence,” he said.
He has played a role in grooming a new crop of referees who now conduct the Jamshedpur Sporting Association Football League in the steel city.
