Jamshedpur Crime: Two inter-state gang members arrested with 70 ATM cards

Jamshedpur, Aug 16: City police here arrested two members of an inter-state racket involved in numerous ATM and online fraud and also confiscated a bunch of 70 ATM cards from their possession.

Those arrested have been identified as Sudhakar Kumar and Pawan Kumar, both residents of Bihar. Cops have also seized a car, a mobile phone and cash worth Rs 9500 from the possession of the accused persons.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), East Singhbhum, Prabhat Kumar, the accused persons were arrested from Deoghar by a team jointly led by DSP CCR Animesh gupta and DSP Patamada Sumit Kumar.

“Recently, several cases of fraud involving swapping of ATM cards and withdrawal of cash from the account of citizens were reported in the city. A team was set up to crack down on the culprits. During interrogation, we learnt that the racket has committed such frauds in various cities of different states. After committing crime, the gang used to leave a city and go to a new destination. They used the wealth so amassed by them for indulgence such as buying costly goods, clothes and car,” said the SSP.

The SSP said the racketeers used to change the ATM cards of people through fraud and later withdrew cash from the bank accounts of victims by using those cards. Many such incidents were reported in Mango, he said, adding further that raids were on to nab other members of the racket.
