Jamshedpur: Condolences pour in for Dr JJ Irani, Narendran and Muthuraman call him a great mentor

Jamshedpur, Nov 2: Condolences and tributes have poured in from people from all walks of life for Dr JJ Irani, the former managing director of Tata Steel, following his sad demise on Monday night.

Dr Irani, who embodied the true qualities of a wonderful human being — the integrity of a gentleman, the self-sacrifice of a compassionate man, the discipline and quest for knowledge of a metallurgist, was given a humble tribute by the company, along with citizens of the city,he steered to growth.  
At a homage ceremony organised at the Centre for Excellence on Wednesday, floral tributes were paid by representatives of various institutions and corporate houses.

TV Narendran, CEO & managing director, Tata Steel, recalled the contributions of Dr Irani to Tata Steel and the society at large. He appreciated his steadfastness to pave way for a culture of cost effectiveness and modernisation in Tata Steel. 
Sharing his personal experiences with the mentor, Narendran said that Dr Irani was dedicated to his thoughts about any subject but given a chance to convince him he was willing to change his views too. This made him overcome challenges. The former managing director was blessed with qualities that made him a great leader.

On the occasion, B Muthuraman, former vice chairman, Tata Steel, hailed Dr Irani’s efforts to overcome challenges posed by economic liberalisation in 1991 and steered the company to newer heights. The former MD recalled that Dr Irani was blunt at times but that made him a proper guide for him. “ When I took over as the new managing director I faced a lot of difficulties during the beginning. However, Dr Irani’s constant support and blunt advice helped him overcome challenges,” noted Muthuraman.

Rupa Mahanty, trustee, Kudy Mahanty Chiren’s Opportunities (KMCO), a city based charitable trust, shared her long association with Dr Irani during her days in Tata Steel.

Rich tributes were also paid by Chanakya Chaudhary, vice president, corporate services, Tata Steel, Pius Fernandes, principal, Loyola School, Vijay Anand Moonka, president, Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce, VK Mehta, former CII chairman, A K Srivastava, Roshan Dastur and Renuka Singh. On the occasion, BJP leader Amarpreet Singh Kale along with other esteemed guests were present.
