Jamshedpur, Oct 10: Classic Eight produced a sensational comeback to clinch the Super Division title with a commanding 6–2 victory over Andhra Sporting Union at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Friday. Trailing 2–0 at halftime, Classic Eight displayed remarkable resilience and attacking brilliance to overturn the deficit and seal a memorable triumph.
Andhra Sporting Union started strongly, with Fudu Hembrom opening the scoring in the 15th minute, followed by Yogeshwar Besra doubling the lead in the 37th minute. The early advantage gave Andhra Sporting Union firm control, but Classic Eight showed their intent to fight back. Deepak Soren’s goal in the 18th minute provided a crucial foothold and hinted at the comeback to come.
The second half and extra time belonged entirely to Classic Eight. Rakesh Gope emerged as the star of the evening, netting four spectacular goals to turn the match on its head. His strike in the 86th minute brought the scores level, forcing extra time, before he completed his hat-trick with goals in the 112th, 114th, and 115th minutes, leaving the opposition stunned.
Bikram Hansda added the final flourish in the 120th minute, sealing Classic Eight’s remarkable comeback — a victory that will be remembered for years as one of the most thrilling finishes in JSA Super Division history.
The match was inaugurated by Mukul Choudhari, Working President, Jamshedpur Sporting Association (JSA), while V. Ramkrishna, Secretary, JSA, handed over the trophy to the winners during the post-match ceremony.
