Jamshedpur citizens take �Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao� pledge on National Girls Day

Jamshedpur, Jan 24: National Girls Day was observed across East Singhbhum on Friday. A district level programme was organized at Town Hall, Sidhgora, under the aegis of district social welfare department as a part of �Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao� week celebration. It was jointly inaugurated by deputy development commissioner B Maheshwari, district icon Purnima Mahato and district social welfare officer Satya Thakur and other guests.

Addressing the gathering, Thakur said the society is incomplete without women. �Girl child is an important part of the social fabric. Without girls, our society cannot be complete. Hence it is important to raise them with proper care and attention. Girls should be given all the facilities for healthy growth, education and a bright future,� Thakur said.

The DDC administered the oath of �Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao� to the gathering. He said the purpose of celebrating �Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao� is to prevent female foeticide and ensure protection and prosperity of girls.

During the programme, meritorious students of various schools of the district were honoured by the guests. The birthday of girls born recently was also celebrated.  A rally with the slogan �Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao� was also taken out. The participants formed human chain to spread awareness among the people.

The dignitaries present during the programme included ADC Sourav Kumar Sinha, ADM Nand Kishore Lal, NEP Director Jyotsna Singh, DSE and DRCH Officer.
