Jamshedpur : Despite chilly temperatures, Jamshedpur witnessed a joyous celebration of the birth of baby Jesus as churches across the city welcomed a significant turnout for midnight masses. St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Golmuri, the largest church, hosted a crowd of 2200 for the midnight mass, led by Father who placed the child Jesus in the crib, continuing a cherished tradition.

The city’s churches, including Lupita Hall in Telco and St. Mary’s Church in Bistupur, were beautifully illuminated with balloons, paper lanterns, and crafts, creating a festive ambiance. Father David Vincent of Jamshedpur Diocese emphasized the message of love and peace, urging everyone to open their hearts, forgive, and show concern for the less fortunate.
Various missionary schools, including Sacred Heart Convent School and Carmel Junior College, joined in the celebration, illuminating their premises for both Christmas and the upcoming New Year. The churches showcased cribs symbolizing the nativity of Jesus Christ.
St. Mary’s Church in Bistupur went above and beyond, organizing three prayer services – midnight, morning, and an additional evening service for senior citizens’ convenience. The midnight mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral was conducted in Hindi, while the morning service catered to both English and Hindi speakers.
Devotees expressed their joy, attending prayer services and later spending the day with family and friends. A devotee shared, “After the morning prayer service, it’s time to visit each other, share wishes, enjoy good food, music, and the company of loved ones. Some friends even planned to catch a movie later in the day.”
The day encapsulated the spirit of Christmas, fostering unity, joy, and the timeless message of peace on earth.
