One of the organizers said, “There was no political involvement in organizing Bal Mela unlike some other events that politicians or political parties organize with an eye on the vote bank. The fair, which boasted 45 stalls, stood out for its non-commercial and non-political nature. All the stalls were set up free of rentals. There was absolutely no political gimmickry involved. ”
MLA Saryu Roy declared the entire Fair as non-commercial. The stalls featured tools and educational materials to enhance knowledge, everyday life items, and demonstrations on the use of new technology.
The success of the fair could be gauged by the overwhelming participation of over 25,000 students from dozens of schools in and around Jamshedpur. Each day witnessed the distribution of numerous certificates and medals, with more than 70 sports events organized, including wrestling, kabaddi, taekwondo, three-legged race, quiz competitions, yoga and many others.
The Bal Mela organizers won the appreciation of participating children and their parents. No entry fee was charged from any participant in any competition. “The primary objective behind this event was to steer children away from vices like substance abuse and to foster their all-round development through traditional sports. “The successful execution of the Bal Mela over the past five days undoubtedly achieved its intended goals,” observed another member of the organizing committee.”
