Jamshedpur, April 15: The Bengalis community celebrated ‘Poila Baisakh’ – the Bengali New Year. A number of programmes were organised by different committees in the city. As always, New Year means new hopes and new ventures and people will be in their high spirits to celebrate the occasion.
Women lined up at the Beldih Kalibari in Bistupur to offer prayers for an auspicious start of the ‘Poila Baisakh’. The celebrations were evident with Bengali food festivals, dance and musical programmes organised in the city. Some of the celebrations however will continue till the weekend.

The Jharkhand Banga Yuva Morcha and the Kadma New Farm Area Durga Puja Committee, both city based cultural organisations organised ‘Borsho Boron’, , a musical extravaganza at the New Farm Area ground in Kadma today. City based group Uday Nrityalok and a Baha dance were presented to entertain the audience. Kolkata based singers performed modern Bengali songs later for the audience.
. “I prayed that I get selected in the medical entrance examination,” said Mouli Ghosh, a young girl who came for the cultural evening.
The cultural programmes included short plays, solo singing and dance performances. Like any other Indian festivals which are incomplete without its specific cuisine, a special fish curry was relished by members of the community.

A cultural event was organised at Sabuj Kalyan Sangh. Organisations Like Bengal Club and The Milanee have lined up cultural gala. Several hotels like The Sonnet and Hotel Yashwee International are offering authentic Bengali cuisine.The main course will offer chingri malai curry, potoler dorma, mocha’r ghonto, bhapa bhetki, daak chicken , chholar dal, khichdi and misti pulao. Desserts will comprise misti doi, kamala bhog and payesh.
