Jamshedpur: CBSE Practical Exams Begin from January 1; Schools Directed to Complete Assessments by February 14

Jamshedpur: The CBSE practical examination process for Classes 10 and 12 officially began on January 1, in line with the board’s guidelines. As per CBSE instructions, affiliated schools must conduct practical exams between January 1 and February 14.

Several CBSE schools in the city have started the process from January 2. In the initial phase, schools are collecting practical files and project work, after which internal assessments will be conducted. From February 1 onwards, schools will begin uploading practical marks daily, based on internal assessment and viva, with the process continuing until February 14.

Around 13,000 CBSE students from Classes 10 and 12 in the city are appearing for the board examinations this year. CBSE has instructed schools to complete practical examinations within the stipulated timeline under all circumstances. The board has warned that students absent from practical exams will not be given a second opportunity.

To ensure the smooth conduct of practical exams, CBSE has advised schools to make proper arrangements for the appointment of external examiners, laboratory readiness, and timely attendance of students.

The board emphasized that practical marks play a crucial role in the final CBSE results, especially for science and vocational stream students. Students have been advised to keep their project work, record files, and viva preparation complete.

CBSE has instructed that practical marks must be uploaded on the board’s portal on the same day the exam is conducted. For Class 12, practical exams will be held strictly under the supervision of board-appointed external examiners, failing which the exam will be considered invalid. Schools are also required to take group photographs of students during practical exams and upload them to the board through the designated app.

In CBSE board exams, a 100-mark subject is usually divided into 80 marks for theory and 20 for internal/practical assessment, or 70 marks for theory and 30 for practical exams, depending on the subject. Strong performance in practical exams can significantly boost a student’s overall percentage. CBSE has instructed schools to maintain fairness and award marks strictly on merit.

CBSE has announced that the theory examinations for Classes 10 and 12 will begin from February 17, 2026. School principals stated that CBSE has issued special vigilance instructions regarding examinations. Schools have been directed to treat exam centre-related information as sensitive and refrain from making any details public.
