Jamshedpur, May 17: Jamshedpur and its neighboring regions in Jharkhand are currently facing extreme weather conditions as a scorching heatwave engulfs the area, pushing temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. In response to the escalating heat, the local Meteorological Department in Ranchi has issued a crucial alert advising residents to remain indoors between 11 am and 3 pm to protect themselves from the intense heat.

The latest report from the Meteorological Department highlights that numerous districts across the state are witnessing temperatures surpassing 40 degrees Celsius.

There are no significant temperature fluctuations anticipated in the next four to five days and certain areas are expected to experience heatwave conditions.

These soaring temperatures are causing discomfort among the populace, particularly children and the elderly who are more vulnerable to the adverse effects of extreme heat.

To combat the prevailing heatwave, the Meteorological Center in Ranchi has issued comprehensive advisory, urging individuals throughout the state, especially those residing in East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, and West Singhbhum to take necessary precautions.

The advisory emphasizes avoiding outdoor activities during the peak hours of 11 am to 3 pm and recommends wearing loose-fitting, light-colored cotton garments.

It further underscores the importance of protecting oneself by covering the head with clothes, hats or umbrellas and maintaining proper hydration by drinking ample amounts of water even when not feeling thirsty. Additionally, workers are advised to avoid direct sunlight between 11 am and 4 pm.

Furthermore, the advisory suggests scheduling physically demanding tasks during cooler times of the day, increasing the frequency and duration of rest periods when engaging in outdoor activities and ensuring that livestock is kept indoors from 11 am to 4 pm. Adequate irrigation of plants and crops is also emphasized. Residents are strongly urged to be vigilant regarding the signs of heat-related illnesses, including heat stroke, heat rash or heat cramps, such as weakness, dizziness, headaches, profuse sweating and seizures. Should anyone experience symptoms of faintness or sickness, seeking immediate medical attention at a hospital or consulting with a doctor is advised.
