Jamshedpur: In a proud moment, Adhiraj Mitra, a Class VII student of Loyola School, secured the silver medal in the U-14 Boys category at the prestigious CISCE National Chess Championship 2024. The event, which saw fierce competition from some of the best young chess talents across India, was held last week, with Adhiraj emerging as one of the standout performers.
The young chess prodigy, who has been steadily climbing the ranks in national chess, displayed remarkable composure and strategic brilliance throughout the tournament. He scored an impressive 6.5 points out of 8, remaining unbeaten, a feat that highlights his sharp tactical skills and growing maturity in the game. Adhiraj is the only player from Jharkhand to clinch a medal at the national level in recent years, making his achievement all the more significant.
This isn’t the first time Adhiraj has proven his mettle on the chessboard. Last year, he also bagged a silver medal at a similar national competition, solidifying his reputation as a consistent and determined player.
Adhiraj’s success is backed by strong support from Loyola School, particularly from Father Vinod Fernandes and teacher Jayanti Sheshadri, who have closely followed his development. However, the young player’s rapid growth is largely credited to his chess coach, Dushyant sir, whose expert mentoring has been instrumental in shaping Adhiraj’s strategic prowess and mental resilience.
Adding to his triumph, Adhiraj’s stellar performance has earned him a place in the prestigious School Games Federation of India (SGFI) competition, opening the door to further opportunities in the world of competitive chess.
Adhiraj’s achievement has brought pride not only to his school and city but also to the entire state of Jharkhand. As the chess prodigy looks forward to future competitions, his story serves as an inspiration to many young players aspiring to make their mark in the game.
