Jamshedpur: Blood donation marks 80 years of St Mary’s English School

 

Education officer urges alumni association to conduct awareness session  in schools

Jamshedpur, October 29: St Mary’s Alumni Association (SMAA) and Interact Club of St Mary’s English High School, Bistupur in association with Red Cross Society, Jamshedpur chapter organised a blood donation camp as part of 80 years celebration of the school.

 

In all 51 units of blood were collected at the camp held at the school auditorium in memory of Late Father Gaulbert Furtado, who had played a crucial role not only in getting the school CBSE affiliation in the early 90s but also its new building constructed at the existing campus.

 

East Singhbhum Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishor Kaushal who was the chief guest at the camp praised the initiative of the school alumni members to organise the blood donation camp and felt that more awareness on blood donation needs to be spread especially in rural belts where it is still considered a taboo.

 

The SSP who hails from Dhanbad also informed that he has himself donated blood more than 26 times.

 

East Singhbhum district education officer (DEO), Nirmala Kumari Barelia who was guest of honour at the program while appreciating hosting of such blood donation camps by the school and the former students also proposed to the alumni association to conduct awareness about blood donation in schools across district so that similar camps can be conducted in other schools.

 

She announced that the district education office would give a letter of recommendation to the association for conducting such awareness session at other schools in the district. She assured education department full support for such initiatives of the school and the alumni association.

 

Deputy vice-president Tinplate Workers Union, Parbinder Singh and president of Ramgarhia Sabha, K.P.S Bansal also graced the occasion as special guests along with social worker Dharmendra Sonkar.

 

Earlier, principal of St Mary’s English High School Father Vernon D’Souza inaugurated the blood donation camp by lighting the lamp

 

It was also announced that four students of St Mary’s English High School who donated blood would be felicitated at the school next week to motivate other students to come forward for such cause.
