Jamshedpur BJP seeks review of FIR, raises law and order issues with SSP

Jamshedpur, July 9: A BJP delegation, led by Jamshedpur Mahanagar president Sanjeev Sinha, on Thursday met East Singhbhum Senior Superintendent of Police Ehtesham Waqariib, seeking a fair review of the FIR registered at Telco police station against several party leaders following the July 3 Jamshedpur bandh.
The delegation also expressed concern over the city’s deteriorating law and order situation and submitted a memorandum.
The BJP said the bandh had been called to protest the alleged rise in crime in the city and the murder of Himanshu Singh in Bistupur. According to the party, the shutdown was peaceful, democratic and received widespread support from traders, residents and various social organisations, with most business establishments remaining voluntarily closed.

The delegation alleged that an FIR was later registered at Telco police station on the complaint of a Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee official against 18 BJP leaders, including senior office-bearers and former public representatives, along with unidentified party workers.
The BJP claimed that the serious charges mentioned in the FIR were baseless and did not reflect any incident that occurred during the bandh. It demanded an impartial investigation, withdrawal of what it termed as unfounded sections, and action against criminals to restore public confidence in the city’s policing.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Sanjeev Sinha said the BJP believes in democratic values and peaceful public movements guaranteed under the Constitution. He alleged that false cases had been lodged against party leaders and workers with the intention of suppressing democratic protest.
Reiterating that the BJP does not support violence or lawlessness, Sinha urged the police to conduct an objective review of the case and ensure justice for those he described as innocent.
The SSP assured the delegation that the matter would be examined impartially and appropriate action would be taken after a fair review.
The delegation included Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu, BJP state spokesperson Abhay Singh, former Potka MLA Menka Sardar, former BJP leaders and office-bearers, along with several district functionaries.
