Jamshedpur BJP delegation flags crime, seeks review of cases against workers

Jamshedpur, July 13: Expressing concern over the rising crime rate and what it described as “baseless” criminal cases against party workers, a BJP delegation led by Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato met East Singhbhum Senior Superintendent of Police Ehtesham Waqarib on Monday and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate action.
The delegation, led by BJP Jamshedpur Mahanagar president Sanjeev Sinha, urged the police to strengthen law and order in the city amid a reported rise in incidents of murder, robbery, theft and snatching.
The memorandum highlighted growing public concern over deteriorating security and called for intensified policing in vulnerable areas.
Mahato referred to the recent burglary in which nine shops on Mango’s Dimna Road were targeted in a single night, describing it as a serious lapse in the city’s security framework.
He demanded the swift arrest of those involved, stringent legal action against offenders and enhanced police patrolling in crime-prone localities.
The delegation also objected to the FIR lodged at Telco police station against senior BJP leaders and several party workers following the peaceful Jamshedpur bandh on July 3.
It alleged that serious charges had been invoked against workers who were raising public issues through democratic means and sought a fair review of the case, urging the police to withdraw what it termed “unfounded” charges against innocent party members.
Another issue raised before the SSP was the FIR registered at Golmuri police station against BJP Golmuri Mandal president Baijnath Upadhyay (Pappu Upadhyay) and party worker Hareram Yadav. According to the delegation, the two were accompanying Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu while helping persuade protesters to lift a road blockade following the Kanhaiya Yadav murder case. The BJP termed the case against them unjustified and demanded an impartial investigation.
Responding to the memorandum, SSP Ehtesham Waqarib assured the delegation that all concerns would be examined objectively. He said maintaining law and order remained the police’s highest priority and reiterated that action against criminals, as well as the investigation into cases involving BJP workers, would be carried out in a fair, transparent and lawful manner.
