Jamshedpur, Jan 19: Two miscreants opened fire on Hayatnagar Ulidih young resident Riyaz Khan near Dimna Lake under Bodam police station area, adjacent to Mango in Jamshedpur city. The bullet hit his thigh. He has been admitted to MGM Hospital. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning. After firing at Riyaz, the miscreants sped away towards Dimna.
Riyaz told police that he had gone for a walk towards Dimna Lake, when suddenly two youth riding a bike came and stopped him. The culprits pointed the pistol at his chest. He further stated that a scuffle ensued during which a shot was fired and the bullet hit his thigh. Riyaz took a lift from a motorcyclist and arrived at MGM Hospital for treatment. The police are probing the veracity of Riyaz Khan’s statement.
Riyaz Khan stated that one of the shooters, Sunny, had earlier implicated him in a case of murder and was sent him to a remand home after arresting him. He said that Sunny had demanded Rs 10 lakh to settle the issue. Riyaz told police that due to previous enmity, Sunny had fired at him with intent to kill. The Bodam police reached Dimna Lake to investigate the matter.
Police stated that efforts were being made to verify the truth of the injured Riyaz’s statement. Simultaneously, the police were also trying to arrest the accused in the firing incident. SSP Dr M Tamil Vanan said that the statement was suspicious. Riyaz Khan had earlier served a jail term in a murder case.
