Ranchi, April 6: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari arrived in Ranchi on Monday and addressed a public meeting and also the BJP workers. He also announced projects worth Rs 7,500 crore for Jharkhand, including the long pending demand of construction of a bridge over river Ganga in Sahebgunj.
Talking to reporters at the project building here after holding discussions with Chief Minister Raghubar Das and other senior administrative officials, he said the funds will also be utilised on development of five national highways passing through the state.
�The state government has requested to construct a six-lane bridge over river Ganga in Sahebgunj district which has been approved by the ministry,� he said, adding that Rs 2,500 crore would�be spent on the�construction of the bridge which would also act as a gateway to the North-East.
He also said construction work would soon commence.
The Union minister said the remaining amount would be utilised for�four-laning of Barhi-Hazaribagh road, Jamshedpur-Bharagora (four-laning),�Aurangabad to Barwadda (six-laning), Rajganj-Gobindpur (four-laning) and Barhi-Rajouli (four laning).
His visit is part of a strategy worked out by the party under which senior party leaders would be visiting different states and making the people aware about the positive aspects of the Land Acquisition Ordinance and also detail the false propaganda that is being spread by the opposition against the ordinance.
Gadkari spoke to party workers at a function organised in Doranda where farmers from the adjoining districts of Gumla, Khunti and Lohardaga were present.
The Union Minister presented the side of the government over the Land Acquisition Ordinance and also made them aware about the misleading facts that were being spread by the opposition.
Gadkari also held a review meeting with Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
Describing Left wing extremism (LWE) as a challenge for road construction, he said he has asked the chief minister to develop small contracts for tribal youths of the 21 districts of the state and� allot them machines and mobilisation advance so that construction of roads can take place in those areas.
He said new technologies are being adopted for construction projects and added that help of military engineering is also being taken so that projects can be quickly completed.
Mr Gadkari said Rs 142.2 crore has been sanctioned for the districts which are hit with LWE.
