Jamshedpur, Jan 15: Birsanagar Police have achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting a key accused involved in a series of robbery and dacoity cases.
The accused, identified as Ajay Singh alias Ajay Balmiki alias Mota (29), a native of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended near Hurlung in Birsanagar while allegedly roaming with a weapon, preparing to strike again.
During the operation, police recovered a country-made pistol, two live cartridges and a mobile phone from his possession.
The arrest was confirmed by City SP Kumar Shivashish, who said that the police received a tip-off on the night of January 14 about an armed suspect moving suspiciously in the area. Acting swiftly, a special raiding team was formed.
On spotting the police, Ajay attempted to flee but was swiftly surrounded and overpowered.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that Ajay had earlier been working at a hotel in Seraikela, from where he allegedly planned and executed multiple robbery and dacoity incidents.
He admitted that he was again out to commit a crime when he was caught.
Ajay also confessed to his involvement in a robbery at the office of Vishwakarma Engineering Private Limited, carried out along with his associates Ajit Behera, Babu Sardar alias Nepu, and Suraj Kanwar.
The gang allegedly looted cash at gunpoint, a portion of which was later used by Ajay to purchase the mobile phone recovered from him. All three accomplices have already been sent to jail earlier.
Following his arrest and the completion of legal formalities, Ajay Singh was produced before the court on Thursday and remanded to judicial custody, further strengthening the police’s clampdown on organised crime in the city.
