Jamshedpur, Jan 15: Sabuj Kalyan Sangh, Telco, will organise its first-ever Rapid Chess Tournament 2026 on January 18 at the Sabuj Kalyan Sangh campus, marking a new milestone for chess promotion in the area. The event has already received an encouraging response, with over 100 players registered so far.
Top seed of the tournament will be Kumar Sankalp, with an Elo rating of 1771, while Ishani Choudhary (rating 1462) will be the top-seeded player in the women’s category. The organisers have announced a total cash prize of Rs 40,000, along with 36 trophies for boys and girls across various age groups.
Reporting time for players will be 8:00 am, and the first round will begin at 8:30 am. The tournament will be played in eight rounds. The entry fee has been fixed at Rs 650.
The tournament will be conducted under the supervision of Chief Arbiter Jayant Kumar Bhuyan, with Vishal Kumar Minz as Deputy Chief Arbiter. A final preparatory meeting was held to finalise all technical aspects of the event.
The meeting was attended by office-bearers of Sabuj Kalyan Sangh, including Pradeep Ghoshal, Joy Jyoti Khatua, Deepak Banerjee, Mithilesh Ghosh, Sudhir Bhattacharya and Subroto Bose along with Narendra Kumar Tiwary, General Secretary, East Singhbhum District Chess Association.
